PC 32bit and 64bit?

 Q:
Can ICDAS models work on PC 32bit?

A:Yes, if you use text input. For Excel input you need a 64bit PC.

 Q:
Can Excel 32bit and 64bit both be used as ICDAS Input ?

A:
Yes.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234Integration between geometry and analysis models

 Q:

It is already possible the integration between Revit Structure and FEM ROBOT by Extension module in Autodesk Suite.
What more can ICDAS provide?

 A:

First, ICDAS create both of geometry and analysis models automatically. Second, Integration in Autodesk Suite needs
to be done correctly from the beginning. If the geometry model has many non-structural elements, the engineer has
to delete them in the analysis model from ROBOT. Very often engineers have to recreate analysis model ROBOT again.
Using ICDAS, engineers need only to create a single input for both of Revit geometry and LUSAS analysis model. I.e.
he/she will get analysis model automatically, and his/her assistant also should be able to enter input.

 Q:
Can ICDAS create 3D geometry model in Revit, and analysis model in ROBOT?

A:
Yes, for special agreement.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
If I have only Revit 2014, why should I choose LUSAS analysis instead of ROBOT?

A:

The three main reasons are that LUSAS has easy user interface, showing 3D cross section deformations, and
smart combination of loads. LUSAS smart combination reduces hundreds or thousands of unnecessary results in
your file.
Further, LUSAS shows contours and values on deformed shape in 3D cross section which are helpful for the further
analysis work.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234Working on an existing model

 Q:
I have an existing model. How can I work further with ICDAS model?

A:

You can create ICDAS model in a new Revit file, then link it to your existing model. ICDAS model is created at (0,0),
so you need to move it to your existing location.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
My existing model is created in an earlier version than Revit 2014. Can I work further with ICDAS 2014?

A:

No. However, you can open your model in Revit 2014, and then continue with ICDAS 2014.
You need to update your Revit to 2014.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:

Can I return to Input1 Revit1.rvt after having worked with Input2 Revit2.rvt?
I have already created F, R, B, L walls and levels in Revit1.rvt Input1.xls.

A:

Yes. Rename "Input2" to the project name input, and rename "Input1" to INPUT FRBL Excel.xls. Then you can continue
to create internal rooms, beams and columns, floors and roofs based on the existing levels in Revit1.rvt. However, it will
take a few seconds to delete walls, levels and create them again. Do it when you are not sure the model in Revit1.rvt is
the same as in
INPUT FRBL Excel.xls.

 Q:
I have a Rhino 3D architect model and want to work further on with Revit 2014. What can ICDAS FRBL help with?

A:

The case your Rhino model has well defined materials that you can import into Revit, then do it. The case you need to create
a new model in Revit, then identify the Front, Right, Back and Left side for the Rhino model. Thereafter enter it in ICDAS input.
You will get a correct Revit material and family for the new Revit model.

 Q:
Can I just create a simple parcel house with FRBL model?

A:
Yes. The input is very simple.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
Do I have all predefined families in Revit 2014 in ICDAS 2014.02.rvt template?

A:
Yes. All predefined families for wall, door, window, floor, roof, beam and column.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
Can I create my own User-Defined Family and use as input in ICDAS?

A:

Yes. ICDAS is fully customized and fully parameterized at the same time.
You can save your Revit file and use
it in the next project.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
Can I combine ICDAS FRBL and Cylinder models?

A:
Yes, but you need to do it in two separated inputs and in two Revit files, then link one to the other, or to a 3rd Revit file.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
Can I make a free shape of floor (e.g. with big curved hollow) and in different levels?

A:
Yes. FRBL input 'Floor design by points position' allow you to create any shape at any level.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
Can I create mathematical curved points for walls in Excel and then create it in Revit ICDAS?

A:

Yes. You create your points in sheet no. 5 then link to sheet no. 1 for input to FRBL model. Note that the curved
wall in ICDAS is a combination of many straight lines which will define the wall (e.g. 1m short element if needed).
See example of FRBL model for buildings in letters I-C-D-A-S.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234Thermal Energy

 Q:
Can I get a thermal energy report for the FRBL model?

A:
Yes. "Thermal Energy Project Name.txt" will automatically be created every time you re-run an input.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
What contains the thermal energy report?

A:

The report contains thermal energy of all walls, doors and windows at all floors of the FRBL building.
Note that thermal energy through the bottom flooring at level 0 and the top flooring at level top are not included in
version 2014.12R.

123456789_123456789_123456789_1234
 Q:
How does the thermal energy calculate in ICDAS models?

A:

Thermal energy = UxAxDT, where

U : heat transfer coefficient from Revit element analytical properties, W/(m2xK)

A : vertical area of element from Revit Properties, m2

DT : temperature difference between inside and outside given in input, C-degrees

Note that Curtain Wall Storefront (wallType no. 26) has U=0.90 W/(m2xK) assumed in input.

There are no default U-value for Curtain Wall Storefront in Revit 2014.
